After years of waiting Adobe will finally unveil one of the most desired software suites ever with the release of CS3 this month. I’ve called Adobe multiple times in the past few weeks. First I called to confirm the release this month, secondly to get my pre-order in for Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium. Yes, I paid with real money. (I hate pirates)

Personally I am looking forward to this release. It’s the first release that will include Macromedia flagship products since Adobe acquired Macromedia several years ago. The creative minds at Adobe have worked together with those originally with Macromedia to make the different programs work seamlessly together. Photoshop now fully integrates with Flash. You can now import PSD files directly into Flash movies and have access to your predefined layered graphics. Photoshop also has many new built in 3-D imaging features. I am definitely looking forward to checking these out.

Anyway, as soon as I get my CS3 package in the mail I’ll be sure to post some screenshots and post a nice review of the new and improved software. Adobe has told me that they expect the software to ship by the end of April, so I figure I still have a good week or two before I should start expecting anything.

Cisco and Apple both want the name iPhone for their own. They have come to a conclusion that is most likely going to confuse consumers.. at least the consumers who don’t pay attention to business news.

In a recent development it was agreed that Apple can use the name iPhone for cell phone (non internet phone use), while Cisco can use it for a VOIP internet phone, but not a cell phone.

Confused? I’m not, but I expect undeducated consumers will undoubtably end up purchasing the wrong item. By uneducated I refer to the tech world.

Little Johnny wants an iPhone for Christmas. There is a good chance that most people will never even hear about the Cisco/Linksys iPhone, and will not know to disclaim their “wish list” with such info.

Little Johnny will be confused when he gets his VOIP iPhone, but at least the brand name will be there.

One of the largest acts of chicanery in the technology world is the big-brand PC retail market, and you can quote me on that.  HP, Dell, Alienware, and all the rest are providing you with a service that takes only a few hours and minimal computer knowledge(relatively speaking), and the results are insane premiums drooped over your pricetag.  The average $1,500 PC can be bought unassembled from just about any online parts retailer (such as newegg) for under $1200.  Don’t believe me?  Lemme learn ya a thing or two.

In the first of a two-part series, I’ll talk about why it’s so beneficial to the consumer to build their own PC or have someone they know do it for them.  In my second article I’ll take a more in-depth look at the actual assembly of your own PC.  So lets get started.

Ever heard of smart dust?  Neither have I.  Smart Dust, otherwise known as wireless sensor technology is the practice of placing tiny sensors anywhere and everywhere or into just about anything to stream data about that location or structure.  Smart Dust has been around for a while now and scientists are using it to do everything from monitor students on campus to checking on rice crops in the orient.  Will this radically change the way of our world?

Microsoft has already started working towards their next major operating system code named Vienna, and claims that the new OS should ship in late 2009.  Microsofts current flagship product, Vista, took 6 years to bring to market even though Microsoft had planned on a 2005 release.  They blamed these delays on security holes in Windows XP that required them to shift their workforce to fill the XP gaps instead of working on Vista.  So that’s only 2 years away.  Can we all get by on Windows XP until then?

Yesterday Toyota’s Scion brand revamped their lineup of cars by dropping the xA, redesigning the xB, leaving the tC alone(because it’s sweet), and introducing the all new xD model.  What makes the introduction of the new xB and the xD that much more interesting is that they were released simultaneously at both the Chicago Auto Show and in the online virtual world of Second-Life.

Next week, Candian start-up D-Wave is preparing to present the worlds first quantum computer at the Computer History Museum in Moutain View, California.  The yet-to-be-proven computer claims to have 16 qubits of processing power, or roughly the same as the computers we all use today.  With plans for much more powerful machines in the coming years, D-Wave has some security experts worried, and some quantum experts confident that they are full of it.  So why is quantum computing important?

We built this City from CON-TAIN-ERS!For years I have been very interested in the idea of modular homes.  Whether that means prefab rooms built at a warehouse, or in this case, used shipping containers.  A company by the name of Urban Space Management has built a “Container City”.  The original project checks in at 3 stories tall, includes 4,800 sq. ft. of living/working space, is cost effective, only took 4 days to install, and claims to be constructed from 80% recycled materials.  So they’re lego houses.  I want one.

I HOPE THEY BUY IT!Well, zero hour has finally come and Windows Vista is here. I’ll be the first to say that I’ve finally gotten my first real solid reason for hating Microsoft. I feel like I’ve been alienated by their absolutely pitiful launch strategy, and I for one am not even going to think about updating to Vista until the prices are almost cut in half. Rediculous. Absolutely rediculous.

Let me get this straight.  The people that are going to be looking to buy Vista at launch are the users that are considered ‘power users’.  They’re the only ones who are gonna get geeked enough to run out to the midnight madness sales and buy Vista.  However, to get the OS they’re expecting(with all the features that make it worthwhile to get rid of XP)…the OS that they NEED to be able to do the things they need/want to do, they have to spend $400.  FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!!!  I feel alienated.  I feel screwed.  I feel abused.  Needless to say, I’m sticking with XP for as long as I possibly can.  Here’s why you should too.

Wii are the world! Wii are the children!Today Nintendo launched the Wii news channel, an online interactive news channel for it’s Online24 service available to all Wii game consoles with an internet connection.  Essentially, the channel acts as an interactive news source where users can browse a digital globe, browsing different regions of the world in search of stories originating from specific locals.  This seems kind of pointless, yet kind of neat and fun.  Is there anything else we should be making note of here?
