Yesterday Toyota’s Scion brand revamped their lineup of cars by dropping the xA, redesigning the xB, leaving the tC alone(because it’s sweet), and introducing the all new xD model. What makes the introduction of the new xB and the xD that much more interesting is that they were released simultaneously at both the Chicago Auto Show and in the online virtual world of Second-Life.

Today Nintendo launched the Wii news channel, an online interactive news channel for it’s Online24 service available to all Wii game consoles with an internet connection. Essentially, the channel acts as an interactive news source where users can browse a digital globe, browsing different regions of the world in search of stories originating from specific locals. This seems kind of pointless, yet kind of neat and fun. Is there anything else we should be making note of here?
For those of you(us) without a life, there’s still hope. For those of you(us) who are appalled at the idea of paying a monthly fee just to play a game we already spent $60 on, there’s hope. And finally, for those of you who have longed to fly around in a world composed of mid-90s era graphic capabilities all while building and selling your way to an early retirement, there’s yet more hope to be had. I’m, of course, talking about the free MMORPG game, SecondLife.
I was doing some of my daily tech site browsing today and came across something that I just could not pass up the chance to blog about. Carol Orsini of GameDailyXL.com got married recently, but this was no ordinary wedding. Well, at least when it comes to the cake.
She married a non-gamer husband, but it’s quite obvious who had the “controller” in this wedding. She definitely will get a lot of props from fellow gamers! Her custom made wedding cake resembled (almost perfectly) a Limited Edition “Legend of Zelda” gold game cube stacked on top of an original XBOX, then a PS2, and finally a nice shiny XBOX 360. Now that’s what I call a LAYER CAKE!
Don’t believe me? Check out her blog for the full story! (Permanent Picture Links: 1 | 2)
After seeing the console layer cake, I decided to do some research an see what else I could find when it comes to “videogame cakes.” Here’s another really solid idea if you are a Mario lover. (Who isn’t) I give you the Mario & Princess Peach Wedding Cake.
In a recent interview, Glenn Entis, EA Vice President & Chief Visual Officer talked about the differences between PS3 and XBox 360 game development. When PS3 was released just a few weeks ago, it seemed to be right on par with current XBox 360 titles. Here’s the kicker:
“The whole industry knows it’s been a challenge; the PS3’s a very complex piece of equipment. On one hand it’s a challenge, on the other hand there’s tremendous potential in that box. I think it’s going to take developers a little while to figure out how to unlock that power.
We’ve got games coming out now where we feel we’ve hit maybe 20 per cent of the potential of PlayStation 3. We know the power’s there, but like any new platform it’s going to take us a little bit of time to unleash it.
Was it more complex than we were expecting? Yes, probably; there were some challenges that we didn’t expect. We’ve got tremendous confidence long-term that it’s going to be a phenomenal games machine.”
Very interesting.
